The New TV Talk Shows

There have been a bunch of shows slated to come out next season. And some have stayed to prolong their demise. I wish I could say that we have a bunch of winners; but we don't. Either the TV production companies have slashed budgets for the shows that they produce, or they just hired a bunch of bad people; which in turn creates a bad show. Of course watching things on the Internet or recording doesn't help TV shows or networks. But the rating will still hold out for who is the true leader.

First up is Anderson Cooper. Give me a break! This guy has a new talk show premiering on PIX 11 (that the CW network). Everyone loves A.C. (when he's trying to do news on CNN). But a fluff show? That is what his new show will probably be because he has to keep his serious show on CNN. I can promise you there will be no conflict of interest between the two show or networks. He will probably be good for a season or two and that's it. I believe Montel Williams proved that you can overkill a talk show host. Drew Carey had the right idea. Pick one show, and focus. A.C. is all over the place. He will be like The Wendy Williams Show. Not as fluffy; but a show that was created specifically to be cheap enough to make the competition miserable but not have a major loss WHEN they cancel it.

Next on the chopping block ABC's The Chew. While maybe good on the Food Network or the even newer spun-off Cooking Channel not good (especially in these time slots on a major network). The only person that can hold her own is Martha Stewart and even she was smart enough to know that she can do more and make more if she moved. And she moved to The hallmark Channel. Biggest paid celebrity over there and it's almost like The Martha Stewart Network on TV. What is it.... 6 hours a day of Martha? So, unless producer Gordon Elliot moves it somewhere; we can say "hold the seconds" for this.

One show that can make it but be up against some tough competition is "The Revolution". Competing against Martha Stewart and Rachel Ray is hard enough. But when you through in Dr. Oz, The Doctor's, and Nate Berkus add a little Dr. Phil (even though he is not a direct competitor) you have a headache. I guess Brian Frons who is the head honcho for ABC daytime (or whatever title they made up for him) is banking on that soap opera people will not make a switch when he canceled their soaps and it will have great lead -ins like "The View". Like it or hate it, "The View" is here to stay. Too bad we may not be able to say the same about Brian if this thing doesn't work.

Dr. Oz, Nate Berkus, Judge Judy, Dr. Phil, The Dr.'s, Ellen, The People's Court - all safe so don't worry.

Did anyone here about Rosie's new talk show on something called OWN (Oprah's Network). If you can find it it could be a big hit. If you can find it. If she doesn't pull in the viewers Oprah has no problem showing Rosie the door. Not everything Oprah touches turns to gold. Who knows, maybe she wants Rosie to fail. She didn't even do a great job of promoting Rosie in her final season. She could've. She has America (who are we kidding) THE WORLD eating out of the palm of her hand. Oprah has hundred's of millions. At least $50 million should have gone towards advertising for Rosie on her new network.

Next up is an English lad that I've watched quite a bit on my many journeys into England. Jeremy Kyle has brought his tone down, but no holds barred show to America. I expect this to do great. We only have Jerry Springer, Maury, and Steve Wilkos. And those guys are all taped in Connecticut. Jeremy's show (taped in New York City) will debut today across the U.S. And with these type of shows it's all about personality. Sally had it, Geraldo and Montel had it. Ricki Lake (who wants to come back) had, Jeremy definitely has it. You can't help but really like him. But here's the real reason why Jeremy Kyle will win. These shows are cheap to produce, have an audience, and can hold their own in any market. I would bet money on this.

We'll end with Conan. He's getting beaten by Jay now that the ratings have settled. Either his fans are too tech savvy and watching him on the Internet or he just should've stay a king at 12:35 am. I was a big supporter of his at NBC's Late Night. I watched him when he only had 89 fans. I would go to see him often. When he took over The Tonight Show the whole feel of the show was different. Leno won fair and square. Conan had a job interview and was runner up. Dave might give Conan his show when he goes (I hope Craig Ferguson learns from this). But I don't know if Conan may just stay at TBS, or fade away. TBS can't just cancel him when they have a huge vested interest in him. However, look at what they did with George Lopez.
